Position SummaryPlans, organizes and directs the essential functions of quality control activities in support of plant
production. Coordinates the day to day quality control activities of the laboratories in regards to testing of raw materials, bulk, and finished goods. Reports to the Senior Manager of Quality and collaborates closely with the Managers of Quality, Manufacturing, Planning, Engineering, Warehouse, and R&D.
AccountabilitiesEnsure compliance to all FDA requirements
Participating in establishing laboratory objectives with Supervisors.
Utilize computer systems for managing the quality units information (e-Performance, SAP, Minitab, Microsoft, etc.).
Motivate the team and provide strong coaching and mentoring to direct reports.
Minimize the risk and exposure to non-conformances, out of specifications conditions, and compliance gaps.
Oversight of all quality investigations to ensure timely closure.
Conduct audits of the Quality Laboratory System.
Plans, executes, and evaluates continuous improvement in quality and process control.
Assures that corrective actions are taken to eliminate the causes of non-conforming product.
Determines and reports the principal cause of failures and non-conformance.
Monitors and reports out quality capability of suppliers based on specification adherence.
Ensures all laboratory equipment that is used to measure the product quality is maintained and calibrated.
Insure that organizational systems and training is in place.
Ensuring that documentation and design controls are appropriate for organization.
Manage the quality work environment (office areas, set guidelines for laboratories, establish work hours, dress attire, housekeeping standards, etc.).
Attend leadership meetings to represent the quality control group.
Elevate quality issues above the Senior Quality Manager.
Specific AccountabilitiesDirectly supervises quality control team
Quality Management Representative for government regulators.
Provides input and manages against a planned budget.
Manages analytical testing using HPLC, AA, GC, and IR.
Manages activities related to incoming Inspection and testing of raw materials and components
Manages activities related to product performance testing to support final release of finished devices
Manages calibration program for production, QC, and R&D inspection, measurement, and test equipment
Manages activities related to environmental monitoring in controlled environment
Ensures data integrity with all reports and testing
Required Skills and ExperienceBS, MS or MBA required. Technical discipline preferred.
Minimum of 15 years' experience in quality related jobs, 10 years' experience in laboratory, with 5 years in supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong verbal/written communication.
Strong organizational, prioritizing and follow up skills; attention to details.
Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and display a sense of urgency.
Ability to work well under pressure, with minimal to no supervision, meets deadlines, and interacts with a variety of personnel and contacts.
Ability to think and act, with minimal supervision, to make decisions.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques and good laboratory practices
Preferred Skills and ExperienceThorough knowledge of regulatory requirements and limitations.
Working knowledge of FDA regulated products.
Working knowledge of validation activities for equipment.
Working Relationships & EnvironmentInternal contacts:
Cross-functional team (Purchasing, Operations, Quality, R&D, Engineering, Human Resources, technical support groups) as well as other value streams.
External contacts:
Suppliers, contract manufacturers, consultants, contract laboratories, research organizations - technical partnerships such as trade organizations.
Be aware of and follow the Environmental Policy and EH&S work instructions/procedures that apply to the job.
Work schedules that vary from typical business hours.
Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Must be able to travel to off-site locations for meetings; occasional overnight travel required.
Occasional work to match production hours, might look like 5-10 hours in the evening or weekend.
